Big Ben: Suspended

Before Roger Goodell announced that the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, would be suspended for a conditional 6 games this football season, I covered his first practice back with the team at the Steelers South Side facility in Pittsburgh. Here are a few frames from Monday – enjoy!

Opening Day: Cleveland Indians

Yesterday I had my first experience in covering an Opening Day baseball game – and stadium I had never been to. Traffic was horrible and parking was even worse in Cleveland. After eventually getting there – still on a broken toe – it was quite easy getting around the stadium and they were quite accomodating to roving photographers. All in all, I had a great time shooting alongside Greg Shamus who was very insightful and full of good advice. And this time I remembered my sunscreen.

I’m so glad baseball season has started back up.

Strasburg Makes Minor League Debut

Today I got up at 8am to participate in the media fiasco that was Stephen Strasburg’s minor league debut with the Harrisburg Senators when they played the Altoona Curve in Altoona, Pennsylvania. A stadium that holds just over 7,000 people was sold out and there were more media members than players. BUT, it was a lot of fun! I covered it for Getty Images and had a great time meeting some new people including Chris Knight of the Patriot News and Keith Law of ESPN Insider – nice, knowledgeable guys. It was also a pleasant surprise seeeing Barry Reeger of the Greensburg Tribube-Review – who I also freelance for – as well.

I’m still suffering from a broken toe and was very worried about how I was going to get (limp) around the stadium and how parking was going to be. Luckily, I parked directly next to the media entrance and was able to take an elevator to every level quite easily. The wireless was fast, the food was good, and I felt pretty good with the images I came away with. Besides the fact that I forgot my sunscreen, it was a pretty good afternoon of baseball. Strasburg went 5IP with 1ER, 8K’s, and 2BB. He also doubled and had an RBI to help his team beat the Altoona Curve 6-4.

Here are some of my favorite images of Strasburg from today’s game. Tell me what you think. I’ll be posting more often on here this spring/summer! Enjoy!

Brand New Logo

This is my new logo for Wick Photography that is now displayed on my new business cards. Let me know what you all think.

I recently had a graphic designer friend create a new logo for “Wick Photography” that I could incorporate into everything from business cards to my website, and once I learn all of the ins and outs of WordPress, into my blog as well.

I’ve attached my logo into this blog. Please, feel free to give me your input on my new “identity”(design, colors, etc). Thanks!

Well I haven’t updated this since around the same time last year when I had my internship with the Pittsburgh Pirates so I guess it’s fitting that I’m now updating it due to my internship with Getty Images/Sport in New York City. I officially arrived in NYC last night around 7:30pm! After a long process of visiting apartment’s in NYC, having an apartment, then essentially being told I didn’t, I finally found an nice apartment in Queens. For the next few days, until the 31st, I’ll be sleeping in the living room until one of the girls in the apartment moves out. The neighborhood is pretty nice and suburban and the roommates are great!

Today was my first attempt at conquering the subway system. I was doing well, trying to time my route from here to the Getty offices, until I took the right train going the wrong direction during my transfer at 42nd St (Times Square) on the 1 train. So tomorrow I’m going to have to give it another go while also making my first ever visit to B&H!

I digress…I’ve learned that there is a lot of time on the subway every day to sit and think and I think I’m going to really enjoy that time. Even though today was very uneventful and far from life changing, the internship as well as time with someone who recently came into my life, are things that I’m really looking forward to and I know each will have a pretty big impact on my future as a photojournalist and as a person. I’m going to continue to consistently post my thoughts and experiences on here, hopefully every day, with photos taken from my iPhone.
